Al Tamimi & Company and SOS Children’s Villages mark World Children’s Day with MOU to strengthen partnership for children

“This November 20 marks 68 years since the United Nations established Children’s Day in 1954,” said Harry Goodall, Director of the Gulf Area Office. “All children have equal rights to care and protection, to live a healthy life free from abuse and harm, and to receive a quality education. Yet 1 in 10 children and young people around the world are separated from their families, abandoned, neglected or forced to live in an abusive environment. They are growing up without strong bonds and the support they need for their future, the effects of which can last a lifetime. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the situation with more than 5.2 million children being orphaned or losing a caregiver due to the virus. SOS Children’s Villages defends and promotes these rights for all children with the support of partners such as Al Tamimi & Company.”

Since 1949, SOS Children’s Villages has been working to ensure that children grow up in a loving family environment and have their rights fulfilled. Locally led, SOS Children’s Villages works in more the 130 countries and territories, including across MENA, to improve the lives of children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it. The three pillars of action include prevention – keeping families together and preventing child-family separation, protection – ensuring care and protection when there is no family or it is not in a child or young person’s best interest to stay in the family, and advocacy – changing policy and practice to improve the situation of children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it.
