From Europe to Africa to Asia - Vincent Kompany, Manchester City FC and SOS Children's Villages
27/07/2012 – After footballer Vincent Kompany opened an SOS Children’s Village in Kinshasa (DRC), his club Manchester City FC is partnering with SOS Children’s Villages Belgium to support a project in China.
Ambassador of SOS Children’s Villages Belgium Vincent Kompany is committed heart and soul to give children a loving home. Earlier this year, he opened an SOS Children’s Village in Kinshasa, a project he was involved in from the very beginning in 2006.
Now his club Manchester City has decided to team up with SOS Children’s Villages for the next 3 years. Feeling a strong affinity with Asia – where the Premier League is hugely popular - Manchester City will support an SOS Mother and Staff Training Centre in Beijing. This centre provides the necessary education and training for the SOS Mothers and other staff who take care of more than 1210 children in the ten SOS Children’s Villages in China. The mission of the training centre is to guarantee the high quality of care SOS Children’s Villages gives to the children. Vincent himself signed the partnership with SOS Children’s Villages this morning in Beijing. A visit of the SOS Mother and Staff Training facility by Manchester City is planned for tomorrow.
Hilde Boeykens, managing director of SOS Children’s Villages Belgium, is clearly very excited about the promising partnership: “The way Vincent Komany enroles his ambassadorship is full of warmth. The fact that this has inspired his club Manchester City to support a project for the coming 3 years is proof of its commitment. Vincent’s ambassadorship transcends the borders of Belgium and touches all our friends around the globe. On behalf of the whole organisation, we would like to thank Vincent as well as Manchester City for their commitment for SOS Children’s Villages. We are very proud”.
