Nepal earthquake in pictures

SOS Children’s Villages is among the international organisations on the ground in Nepal and is responding with emergency aid for the victims of the earthquake that struck Kathmandu valley on Saturday, 25 April.

“Our thoughts are with the many children and adults affected by this tragedy, as the death toll is rising by the hour,” said SOS Children’s Villages International CEO Richard Pichler on Saturday.

Nepal EarthquakeOn Saturday, 25 April, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck near the Nepali capital of Kathmandu. The violently shaking earth collapsed houses, leveled centuries-old temples and triggered avalanches in the Himalayas. One day after the tragedy, the death-toll was estimated to be near 2,000, with expectations that it will rise as the recovery phase begins.
