Youth Skills Day – July 15 2018

Boosting employability through digital skills development

Youth employability is a global challenge. Around the world, young people struggle to find the training and skills development they need as they begin their careers and independent living.

The impact of learning skills on opportunities for young people, both personal and professional, is highlighted on Youth Skills Day, which is marked on 15 July.

This topic particularly affects young people without parental care, and those at risk of losing it, as they often lack support networks, career advice and resources.

SOS Children’s Villages works in projects and partnerships around the world to boost young people’s skills and support them in education and training.

The Digital learning for a digital generation project, supported by Google, uses information and communication technologies (ICT) to foster education and self-development among children, families and communities in Morocco, Egypt, Benin and Côte d’Ivoire. This project is also part of a wider SOS Children’s Villages strategy called Digital Villages which provides children, young people and caregivers with digital literacy training and access to ICT resources to support education, employability, training and capacity building.
