International Annual Report 2016

No child should grow up alone

Roughly one out of ten children is facing life’s challenges without adequate care and support. Our International Annual Report 2016 describes how SOS Children’s Villages supported children and families in 135 countries and territories worldwide, working with communities and partners towards ensuring that no child grows up alone.

At least 220 million children worldwide are growing up without the care they need.

To empower families and prevent family breakdown, SOS Children’s Villages supported over 492,000 children and young people through family strengthening programmes in 2016.

For almost 85,000 children and young people who cannot live with their families and needed quality alternative care, SOS Children’s Villages provided care and support in 571 SOS Children’s Villages.

297,000 children, young people and adults learned and built their skills in SOS kindergartens, schools, vocational training centres and social centres.

In humanitarian emergencies, SOS Children’s Villages specialises in the protection and care of children. In 2016, children and families in 23 countries received urgent support.

Overall, 894,000 single health services were delivered to children and families in 77 medical centres.

None of our work would be possible without the support of civil society, corporate, foundation and government partners, as well as hundreds of thousands of generous and passionate sponsors and volunteers around the world support SOS Children’s Villages’ mission.

The International Annual Report 2016 also provides data on the factors that put children at risk of losing parental care. It includes results from our impact assessments, shows how we advocate and raise awareness about child care standards and children’s rights, and describes the SOS Children’s Villages’ Strategy 2030 that will guide the organisation through the next decade.
