"Let's Play, Let's Build"
04/07/2007 - FIFA has once again teamed up with SOS Children's Villages to launch "Let's Play, Let's Build" the Official Charity Campaign of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007, opened last Saturday, 1st of July.
The campaign aims to raise $ 2 million to combat the HIV/ AIDS crisis in southern Africa. Funds raised will go towards building homes and creating outreach programmes in the region and will make a difference in the lives of over 1,000 vulnerable kids! Outreach programmes will support the development of community-based responses to the situation of both orphaned and vulnerable children, with a view to strengthening the capacity of families to protect and care for their own children. Additionally in Namibia Ondangwa, a region with a particularly high HIV/AIDS rate and a significant number of orphaned and vulnerable children, a new SOS Children’s Village will be build.
The campaign, says FIFA President Sepp Blatter, “captures the spirit that makes the beautiful game a powerful beacon of hope”. FIFA and SOS Children’s Villages have been working together as a team for over 12 years. The relationship reached a milestone in last year’s highly successful “6 villages for 2006”, the Official Charity Campaign of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™. It quickly became soccer’s largest social undertaking ever, resulting in six new SOS Children’s Villages around the globe.
