Situation around SOS Children's Village Mogadishu remains very tense
16/08/2007 - Fighting between government troops and insurgents has sporadically continued at night around the SOS Children's Village Mogadishu since 8 August when Somali government troops moved into the area.
The children, mothers and co-workers are all safe and rarely move outdoors while the threat of fighting is present. The SOS Hospital is still functioning as a maternity and paediatric unit but roadblocks in the area limit access to both the children's village and the hospital.
More government troops are reported to be moving into the area. The management of the hospital and children's village is assessing the situation regularly and has prepared contingency plans should the need arise.
