Construction work on the newly inaugurated village began in 2008 and was completed in February of this year. The new village has 13 family homes and is the tenth SOS Children's Village in the South American country. SOS Children's Villages has been active in Peru since 1975, when the first families moved into the first Peruvian SOS Children's Village near the capital Lima.
To celebrate this joyful event, many local and international guests from within SOS Children's Villages and local authorities attended the colourful fiesta hosted by the children of the children's village. In his speech, the President of SOS Children's Villages Peru, Dr. Carlo Rainusso thanked the international and local visitors and expressed his gratitude for the support received, especially from donors in Denmark.

The children of the village performed a series of folcloric dances and songs for the guests, dressed in various costumes typical of the region. The event concluded with the emotive unveiling of the inauguration plate that symbolized the beginning of a new future for the many children that can now enjoy the cosiness of a house, several brothers and sisters, and an SOS mother within the security of an SOS Children's Village.
