SOS youth becomes Junior South American Judo Champion

19/03/2007 - SOS Children's Villages congratulates Rodrigo Bermeo for pocketing a gold medal at last week's Junior South American Judo Championships! Rodrigo, an Ecuadorian youth from the SOS Children's Village in Quito, has also qualified for the Pan American Championships in the Dominican Republic.

The 16-year-old defeated competitors from all South American countries to win the highest prize in the category +100 Kilograms at the Junior South American Judo Championships, which took place in Cuenca, Ecuador, from 7-12 March. Rodrigo qualified for this event by obtaining the gold medal at the national competition: V Ecuadorian Olympic Festival.

Thanks to these victories, Rodrigo will be participating in the Pan American Championships in the Dominican Republic. The SOS Children's Village in Quito organised a big party on 16 March in order to celebrate Rodrigo's feat. Also present at the celebrations was Francisco Romero from the local Kao Sport Centre, who presented Rodrigo with a bicycle.
