Emergency Relief

Because of our presence in over 135 countries, SOS Children’s Villages is uniquely poised to respond to emergency situations. In cases of war, famine, or natural disaster, the organization is often a first responder to those affected by emergency situations. While the primary focus of SOS Children's Villages is not emergency relief, the permanent infrastructure of SOS Villages, Social and Medical Centers allows for rapid intervention in times of crisis.

In traumatic situations, such as emergencies, children are left more vulnerable than most. Left untreated, mental and physical trauma can leave permanent damage on children. Additionally, during times of crisis children are often orphaned, abandoned, or separated from their parents, and SOS works hard to either reunite children with their families or take in those orphaned by disaster.
